Hi friends today we will explain you about the IAS syllabus and question paper pattern. As most of us are aware but for beginners I would like to tell that IAS (Indian Administrative Services) exam is conducted by UPSC and this is one of the most prestigious job for every aspirant in India. Every student (from the childhood) see the dream to become an IAS officer. But as this exam is toughest one so it is not easy to be an IAS officer. Huge effort and determination is required for the same. It is tough not impossible, if you are doing right study (means in right direction) with full determination and self confidence then it will be easy to clear the exam. Here are the syllabus for you that will help you lot to prepare your strategy for the IAS Prelims and Mains Exam-

IAS Exam Syllabus & Paper Pattern Overview:

IAS examination is conducted in 2 stages- CSPE (Civil Services Preliminary Examinations) and CSME ( Civil Services Main Examination).

IAS Prelims exam question paper contains only objective types of question where as in main exam there will be written examination (subjective type) and then there will be interview with selected candidates who qualified the main exam and we all know Interview is the toughest part of the selection process.

Civil Services Pre Exam Paper Pattern & Syllabus-

IAS Preliminary exam (objective / multiple choice questions type) has two papers:
i. Paper – I (General Studies: Marks – 200, Duration – 2 hours;)
ii. Paper – II (Civil Services Aptitude Test- Marks – 200, duration – 2 hours;)
Note:
i. The minimum qualifying marks for Paper II is 33%.

ii. In both Paper I and Paper II for there is a negative marking of 1/3rd of the allotted marks of that question.

iii. The marks which you will secured in the pre exam will be only for qualifying the Mains Examination. It will not be counted to determine the merit.

I. IAS Prelims – Paper I – General Studies Syllabus:
1. Current Affairs: National as well as international.
2. National Movement of India and Indian History.
3. Geography: India and the World; Physical, Social and Economic Geography of India as well the international.
4. Indian Governance and Polity of India: Constitution, Panchayat Raj,Political System, Public Policy, Rights Issue, etc…
5. Economic Development & Social Development: Social Sector Initiatives, Sustainable Development, Poverty, Demography of the Nation,Inclusion.
6. General Issues on Bio-Diversity, Environmental Ecology and Change in the Climate .
7. General Science.

II. IAS Prelims – Paper I – Aptitude:
1. Interpersonal Skills which include Communication Skills.
2. Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability.
3. Decision-Making and Problem-Solving.
4. General Mental Ability.
5. Basic Numeracy (numbers as well as their relations, orders of magnitude, etc…..,) & Data Interpretation ( Tables, Charts, Graphs, Data Sufficiency, etc…..,). Note: Basic Numeracy & Data Interpretation based on Level of Class X.
6. English Language – Comprehension Skills ( Based on Level of Class X)

UPSC Mains Exam Pattern & Syllabus

In Mains Examination there will be 9 Papers out of which 2 will be Qualifying in nature namely Paper A & Paper B; and rest 7 papers i.e. Paper I to Paper VII are based on Ranking. The Questions will be available in both Hindi as well as English languages in the Question Papers.

III. IAS Mains – Paper I – Essay

IV. UPSC IAS Mains – Paper II – General studies I:
The major areas of this paper are as follows:
1. Heritage & Culture of India,
2. History & Culture of the World and the Society.

V. UPSC IAS Mains – Paper III – General studies II:
The major areas of this paper are as follows:
1. Governance
2. Constitution
3. Polity
4. Social Justice.
5. Internal Relations.

VI. IAS Mains – Paper IV – General studies III:
The major areas of this paper are as follows:
