8 Reasons We Couldn’t Wait To Get Back To School
Category : Blog
It’s almost that time of year again, when our Facebook timelines are filled with photos of all the kids heading back to school (this is when the reality of just how old you’re getting really sets in) a topic for another time. The commute to the office that for the past three months took half the time is about to double once gain… However short lived it may have been there were the briefest of moments when we really couldn’t wait to get back to the school yard.
1 – The shopping, okay this is probably more accurate for the girls, but as long as you were let loose did you really care what you were shopping for, a new dress was still a new dress, even if it was a grey pinafore that everyone else was wearing, it was clearly in season. Not to mention the new school bag, now this was a really big deal.
2 – The excitement of getting to see all of your friends. Who cares that you probably just spent the past three months with them, more than likely fighting; getting to see them in school was different. There was so much to catch up on.
3 – Hoping that you’d get to sit beside your best friend for the entire year. This usually only happened if you were getting a new teacher, and they didn’t realise they’d undoubtedly have to separate you in less than a week for talking.
4 – There was always that one teacher that you really missed. Miss Walton, sure she told us the only reason she had us for three years in a row was because no one else wanted us… Apparently we weren’t the most well behaved group of young girls. But we knew she went into that pre-term staff meeting every year and asked for us, we were lovable really.
5 – The power of the stationary… This was not to be taken lightly; this could determine the social standing for the year… It was a well-known fact that whoever had the best markers at the beginning of the year was going to be a leader and would hand pick the cool click by allowing them to use the coveted colours.
6 – The sheer excitement when you eventually made it into 6th class. This was your time; you were going to rule the school yard. Little did you know that the next year you’d be relegated right back down to the bottom of a much harsher food chain, secondary school was a scary in 1st year.
7 – Covering your school books. This was an arts and crafts day in and of itself. Searching for the left over wall paper, hoping that you wouldn’t be left with something your Nana had used ten years ago. Although, it was almost sad when you graduated to plain brown paper, how boring!!
8 – The school trips, okay so you were probably going to go to the farm three times. If you were really lucky there’d be a visit to the Coca Cola Factory in there “Give that Girl a Can of Coke” were the words you longed to hear. It really didn’t matter where you went, you’d be with your friends and when that’s the case a trip to Knock (no, seriously) is up there with some of your fondest memories of school.
Who knew that one day we’d agree with all of those adults that insisted “school are the best days of your life”. Not only do we agree with them but somewhere over the last few years we’ve become those adults, now that’s a scary thought…
